THIS IS A CLASS ABOUT THE POWER OF COMMUNICATION
You thought this class was about how to use some computer applications and programs? But the computer is only a tool. A few years from now the applications may look very different and the programs may be out of date. But communication skills will always be valuable. The ability to use words and images to convey ideas will serve you well in any career.

The focus of Computer Art 3–4 is Web Design. Students will use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe GoLive, HTML, CSS, Javascript and Macromedia Flash — as well as the Principles of Art & Design — to produce art and communication projects.

This is an Advanced Class. Students taking Computer Art 3–4 must be familiar with using computer applications. Students need to have passed Computer Art 1–2 with a grade of B or higher or they must have Mr. Machtay's permission to take this class.

WHAT'S EXPECTED OF STUDENTS
This course is a workshop. The largest part of your grade is based on the work you produce in class. It's important to maintain online Portfolios of work you do. You'll also fill out Work Logs that keep track of how you spent class time.

Effort Counts! Any student who puts in effort and hands in completed work on all class projects will get a good grade in Computer Art. Students will fail the class if they do not hand in work, miss too much class time because of unexcused absences or do not stay on task while in class. Make sure Mr. Machtay sees what you're working on in class. You can receive credit for work-in-progress. If you get ahead of the class, speak to Mr. Machtay about moving ahead with work that will challenge you.

Tests will focus on hands-on skills; you will generally be asked to demonstrate that you have learned skills taught in class. But you will also have at least one test of knowledge about color theory, Photoshop, and HTML code.

Written Assignments: Each student will produce an Art History Report & Presentation and will write 200 words about one of the classroom books. Because so much of the coursework involves computer applications used in class, there is not a lot of homework given. Therefore, when written homework is assigned, students should take it seriously.
