AVID

The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, especially students in the middle not previously successful in a college preparatory path will:

1.Succeed in rigorous curriculum;
2.Enter mainstream activities of the school;
3.Increase their enrollment in four-year colleges;and
4.Become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society

  • 95% are enrolled in a college or university
  • 71% are attending a four-year university
  • 24% are attending a two-year college
  • 75% of the graduates are working either full or part-time to send themselves through college

What Is AVID?

AVID is a regulary scheduled elective class that prepares students with academic potential for college.

What are the expections for AVID students?

AVID students are expected to maintain at least a "C" average in scholarship and citizenship, to study a minimum of two hours a night, and to enroll in college preparatory classes. The AVID students goals are to enroll in a four-year post secondary institution.

What happens in the AVID program?

The AVID program is three-pronged: in the AVID elective class , students

1.receive academic instruction in writing and in the following skills:note-taking, test taking, and organization;

2.receive academic support from tutors through collaborative group and peer tutoring;

3. are motivated to pursue academic excellence through cultural and college field trip, classroom guest speakers and AVID team building.

How do you recognize an AVID student?

The AVID student carries a notebook, takes notes in ALL classes, is prepared for class, is a positive role-model for other students and is on-track for college.
