GATE (Gifted & Talented)

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) held a Candlelight Ceremony in the Galileo library Tuesday, November 30, 5:00 p.m., honoring students for their academic and ledership achievement. Students recieved an "academic pin" presented by parents, administrators and faculty members. Guest speakers will include Ms. Judy Getto, from the John Hopkins University Center for Talented Students along with Ms. Cancino and Ms. Kornblith with information on Summer Search and other exciting programs. Look for you invitation in the mail and return your RSVP card to Room 458.

Gifted and Talented Education students who are identified by the school must score (4) points out of the following six (6) categories:

  1. Special Circumstances Health Impairment, Ell/Language, ADDw/504, Special Education
  2. Economic Disadvantage (Free/reduced lunch)
  3. Teacher Recommendation
  4. Parent Recommendation
  5. Report Card, 3.0 GPA or higher
  6. CAT6/SAT9/SABE Code 42 - 85% or above in two subjects in one year Code 43 - 85% or above in one subject for two years
Once you are identified, a GATE identifying number will be listed on your high school transcript, In addition, you may be placed in honors of AP classes. This identification can enhance (looks good) your resume and college applications.

Special thanks to the administration, staff and faculty who helped make this evening a successful event for our students. We will have a spring semester celebration, as well.
